چکیده

This paper concentrates on the comparisons of systems that are used for the recognition of expressions generated by six upper face action units (AU s) by using Facial Action Coding System (FACS). Haar wavelet, Haar-Like and Gabor wavelet coe cients are compared, using Adaboost for feature selection. The binary classi cation results by using Support Vector Machines (SVM ) for the upper face AU s have been observed to be better than the current results in the literature, for example 96.5% for AU2 and 97.6% for AU5. In multi-class classi cation case, the Error Correcting Output Coding (ECOC ) has been applied. Although for a large number of classes, the results are not as accurate as the binary case, ECOC has the advantage of solving all problems simultaneously; and for large numbers of training samples and small number of classes, error rates are improved.

Facial Action Unit Recognition from Video Streams with Recurrent Neural Networks

Facial expressions are one of the parameters for accessing individual behavioral processes. Their recognition and verification can be framed as the identification of states of dynamical systems generated by physiological processes. Whereas a snap shot of a dynamical system gives information about its current state, a time series of past states captures its trajectory in state space. The descrip...

Automated Facial Expression Recognition Based on FACS Action Units

Automated recognition of facial expression is an important addition to computer vision research because of its relevance to the study of psychological phenomena and the development of human-computer interaction (HCI). We developed a computer vision system that automatically recognizes individual action units or action unit combinations in the upper face using Hidden Markov Models (HMMs). Our ap...

Differences in facial expressions of four universal emotions.

The facial action coding system (FACS) was used to examine recognition rates in 105 healthy young men and women who viewed 128 facial expressions of posed and evoked happy, sad, angry and fearful emotions in color photographs balanced for gender and ethnicity of poser. Categorical analyses determined the specificity of individual action units for each emotion. Relationships between recognition ...

Recognition of Facial Action Units with Action Unit Classifiers and an Association Network

Most previous work of facial action recognition focused only on verifying whether a certain facial action unit appeared or not on a face image. In this paper, we report our investigation on the semantic relationships of facial action units and introduce a novel method for facial action unit recognition based on action unit classifiers and a Bayes network called Facial Action Unit Association Ne...

Ensemble Approaches to Facial Action Unit Classification

Facial action unit (au) classification is an approach to face expression recognition that decouples the recognition of expression from individual actions. In this paper, upper face aus are classified using an ensemble of MLP (Multi-layer perceptron) base classifiers with feature ranking based on PCA components. This approach is compared experimentally with other popular feature-ranking methods ...

Fully Automatic Upper Facial Action Recognition

This paper provides a new fully automatic framework to analyze facial action units, the fundamental building blocks of facial expression enumerated in Paul Ekman’s Facial Action Coding System (FACS). The action units examined in this paper include upper facial muscle movements such as inner eyebrow raise, eye widening, and so forth, which combine to form facial expressions. Although prior metho...
